What should the club do?

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo is a much-loved Kaizer Chiefs star but his latest absence is cause for concern.
Reports leading up to Amakhosi’s 2-1 win over SuperSport suggested 24-year-old Nkosingiphile Ngcobo was back in full training. However, he was clearly not deemed fit enough to make the matchday squad. It’s unlikely that the attacking midfielder will play any significant part in the remainder of the campaign as niggling injuries continue to hamper his progress.
Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, loved within the club for his skills and impressive work ethic, has battled injuries in the last two campaigns. This season he’s made 12 appearances in the league. That goes with 13 in the whole of last season and 16 in the one before. In 2020-21, his best campaign at the club, he managed four goals in 25 league outings. At his best, Ngcobo is a wonderful option in the number 10 position because of his work rate and technical ability. The Chiefs technical team must prioritize his fitness otherwise difficult decisions will need to be made in the long term.
Chiefs will be eager to capitalize on a Downs team potentially low on morale after their CAF Champions League exit to Esperance at the semi-final stage. The much-needed win over Matsatsantsa, courtesy of goals from Christian Saile and Mduduzi Shabalala, snapped a streak of four consecutive matches where Cavin Johnson’s team failed to find the back of the net. Amakhosi host Sundowns on Thursday 2 May with kickoff at 19:30.
For the record, Ultra high-definition TVs started taking hold in 2015, while the Apple Watch launched in April of the same year. 2015 was a good vintage for the Glamour Boys. Chiefs clinched the league title on April 22nd 2015 with a 4-1 win over Polokwane City, courtesy of goals from George Lebese, Bernard Parker and a Matthew Rusike brace. There were still three games of the PSL season to spare. What a luxury.
