Soon after Handre Pollard played a crucial role in leading the Springboks to the 2023 World Cup, he announced along with his wife Marise that they were expecting their first child.

Handre and Marise were married in 2017, and this past weekend they shared the arrival of Hunter Andre Pollard on social media.

“Hunter Andre Pollard. Our biggest blessing and greatest love. 25 April. 3.6kg. 52 cm,” the post was captioned, along with a bible verse.

“For you formed my inward paths; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows very well. Psalm 139: 13 – 14,” read the quote.

SPRINGBOK SUPERSTAR

Although Pollard is just 30 years old, he has already played for the Springboks for the better part of the last decade, while he has racked up 69 Test appearances to date.

He memorably emerged as the the Springboks’ leading points-scorer as he played a key role in the triumphant 2019 Rugby World Cup campaign, while returning from injury to also make a major impact at last year’s tournament.

“Last time around there was no expectancy, and this time there was a lot of expectancy on us as a team, but we stuck in the fight,” he reflected after the 2023 World Cup.

“It was close all the way through, we played the top five nations in the world to win it, so I don’t think there’s been a tougher route. This one was extremely special and one we’ll never forget.

“It’s unbelievable. After last time, I thought it couldn’t get bigger than that, but it just was. It was unbelievable to see the amount of people [back in South Africa for celebrations], behind us and supporting us.

“We got the messages and videos from back home when we were in France, but to experience it back home…just thanks to the support. It’s a surreal feeling, and an honour to be a part of it.”
