Cricket South Africa released the first official photo showcasing the jersey design for the Proteas’ T20 Cricket World Cup campaign on Sunday.

The long wait to the unveiling of the Proteas jerseys has finally ended on Sunday when CSA launched the national men’s team’s kit for the anticipated T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America.

While the national colours are green with a touch of gold, the front of this jersey is predominantly yellow, with the official T20 World Cup logo and the South African crest on either side of the chest area.

The logo of the Proteas’ official main sponsor, Lotto Sport, is printed on the side of the jersey sleeve.

“Time to suit up with for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” read the CSA statement on social media. “Brace yourselves as our Proteas Men’s team lights up the global stage with some out-of-this-world performances!”

They went on to confirm that replica jerseys will be made available and will go on general sale on 15 May 2024 at select stores, but that pre-orders can be done as of today, 28 April, via the official CSA website.

OVERWHELMING RESPONSE IS THAT OF DISTASTE

Fans were not impressed with the colour-way used for the jersey nor the actually design of the top and most of voiced their opinion via their social media platforms.

“Surely they could have spent just a little more time on this hideous shirt design,” one Proteas lashed out on X (formerly Twitter).

Another simply said: “Looks kak.”

“Should wear gold yellow trousers imo too, too much green doesn’t blend all that well with the shirt,” a different fan chirped sarcastically.

One asked for a little less Bafana and a little more Springboks: “Bafana Bafana jerseys….if you have the same colors as the soccer team you won’t get anywhere again. Why don’t you go and take the real jerseys….Bokke green and gold…with the Springbok on….? At least the Boks won 4 WC….how many did Bafana?”

There were other shorter comments left on CSA’s Proteas kit thread on X, like these: “That kit is an eyesore”, “What in the blue hell is this”, “Looks like an Aussie kit” and “These kits are terrible.”
